INDIAN RIVER COUNTY — The United Way Foundation of Indian River County has named Michelle Malyn as its first Executive Director as part of an on-going commitment in offering planned giving options to those interested in advancing the common good in Indian River County. Malyn served most recently as the Chief Development Officer at United Way of Indian River County.
“The United Way Foundation has a good start,” explained Board Chair Kyle Morgan, “but in order to meet the needs of donors by providing planned giving options and services, we felt it was time for a dedicated staff member. We are confident that Malyn is the right choice with her significant history with United Way and successes in aligning donor passions with the work being done by our local United Way.”
The United Way Foundation is solely focused on building a permanent endowment to provide long-term financial support for the work being done by the United Way of Indian River County. The United Way of Indian River County invests in a broad range of local health and human service programs to improve lives and build a stronger community in the areas of education, financial stability and health.
Gifts to the Foundation become part of a separate fund which operates independently from the annual United Way fundraising campaign, where dollars raised are immediately invested in programming. Contributions to the Foundation are invested for growth with a percentage available for distribution each year to support and sustain the critically important work being done for generations to come.
Malyn has worked within the United Way system for more than 15 years serving both the Heart of Florida United Way in Orlando and the United Way of Indian River County, here in Vero Beach. She has a Bachelor’s Degree in Public Relations from the University of Florida, and is a native of Melbourne Beach.
“This move is an incredible opportunity for me to lead the United Way Foundation through a period of development,” commented Malyn. “It is an honor to work on this important initiative and with this impressive list of community-minded Board members. After receiving our first million dollar legacy gift last season, and now adding our first staff member dedicated solely to Foundation work, it is an exciting time.”

The United Way Foundation became its own 501c3 charity in 2011, organized formally as a supporting organization to the United Way of Indian River County.
The United Way Foundation of Indian River County is committed to building an endowment that will extend United Way’s reach by forever generating funds in support of United Way’s work here in our community.
