Benjamin Reed Campbell Jr., 83, of Vero Beach, passed away on March 29, 2016.
He is survived by his wife Helen Schmalenberger Campbell, of Vero Beach; sons Benjamin Reed Campbell III, of Hokkaido, Japan, Charlie Allen Campbell, of Salem, Va., James Morris Campbell, John David Campbell, both of Catawoa, Va.; sister Peggie Flores, of Calif.; half-brothers Bill Biggs, Jon Biggs, Charley Biggs, all of Tulsa, Okla.; two granddaughters; two grandsons; six great-grandchildren; he is also survived by Helen’s children Barbarn Katzenberg, of Sanford, Fla., Kenneth W. Schmalenberger, of Deltaville, Va., and Robert Schmalenberger, of Vero Beach.
He was preceded in death by his grandson James Campbell.
Campbell was born in Lexington, Kent., and has been a resident of Vero Beach for 34 years coming from Saudi Arabia and Catawoa, Va.
He served in the US Army during the Korean War.
Campbell received a Bachelor Degree from Marshall University. During his early years he owned and farmed a 65-acre farm in Roanoke, Va. He was a master gardener and enjoyed many other activities including swimming, ballroom dancing, fishing and gambling (not necessarily in that order).
He was a born salesman and previously owned an office equipment business and traveled extensively for both business and pleasure. He was always there to help someone in need and lived his Christian faith.
A Memorial Service will be held at 11 a.m. on Saturday, April 9, 2016 at Aycock Funeral Home in Fort Pierce. A Celebration of his life will follow at 12:30 p.m. at the Woodfield Clubhouse in Vero Beach.
Memorial contributions may be made in Ben’s honor to the VNA Hospice of Vero Beach.
