INDIAN RIVER SHORES — Indian River Shores Public Safety Officers will now have another non-lethal tool on their belts following the Town Council’s actions earlier this week. The Council approved purchasing Tasers for the force.
In all, the Town spent nearly $7,890 on four Tasers, holsters, cartridges and batteries. Next fiscal year’s budget has room for another four Tasers and related equipment.
Officers will receive training on the new tool and will be required to check out the Taser when on patrol.
Already, the Indian River Shores Public Safety Department equips officers with batons and pepper spray, along with a gun.
