Hibiscus Children’s Center hosts luncheon, fashion show April 7

INDIAN RIVER COUNTY — To commemorate Child Abuse Prevention Month, Hibiscus Children’s Center will host their Annual Blue Ribbon Luncheon and Fashion Show on Thursday, April 7, at the Oak Harbor Club in Vero Beach.

This year’s theme is “Hats Off To Hibiscus.” Guests are encouraged to wear hats. The festivities will begin at 11 a.m. with a champagne reception. Guests will have the opportunity to bid on fabulous silent auction items and purchase raffle tickets for the chance to win some very special prizes.

The runway fashion show will feature looks from Cooper & Co., Frances Brewster, J. McLaughlin, Pineapples and Sassy Boutique with children’s appearances in fashions from Lily Pad.

The event co-chairs, Jan Harrell and Karen Loeffler, and their dedicated committee of volunteers are planning an elegant afternoon that guests will remember while raising funds and awareness about child abuse.

The “Blue Ribbon Campaign” is a tribute to Bonnie Finney’s three-year old grandson who died at the hands of his mother’s abusive boyfriend in 1989. Since that time, concerned citizens all over the country have worn the blue ribbon during Child Abuse Prevention Month to symbolize the need to prevent child abuse and neglect.

The group hopes the public will join them on April 7, in coming together to enjoy a memorable afternoon, but most importantly, in helping keep children safe. Since the Hibiscus Children’s Center’s inception, it has provided more than a quarter-of-a-million nights of safety to abused children and youth.
