Arrest made in hit-run with stolen car

VERO BEACH — A man accused of stealing a car and wrecking it was arrested shortly after the crash on Monday evening.

Zanja Stinson, 22, of 4055 44th Lane, Vero Beach, allegedly fled the scene of a tw0-vehicle crash with property damage in the 2000 block of De Leon Avenue in Vero Beach. Police apprehended him minutes later in the 2100 block of 19th Street.

The victim of the hit and run was able to positively identify Stinson who matched the physical and clothing description given to authorities during their search.

The vehicle Stinson was driving was reported stolen earlier the same day.

A search of the vehicle yielded small baggies of cocaine, hydromorphone pills and marijuana, according to the police report.

Stinson now faces felony charges for grand theft auto, possession of cocaine, and possession of a controlled substance. He faces misdemeanor charges for leaving the scene of an accident with property damage, possession of marijuana under 20 grams, and driving without a valid driver’s license.

He is currently being held in the Indian River County Jail in lieu of $8,000 bond.
