Teen arrested for beating great-grandparents

INDIAN RIVER COUNTY — An Indian River County teen accused of beating his elderly great-grandfather and threatening him with a knife, was arrested Friday afternoon.

Denver Daucher, 19, of 3975 58th Avenue, Vero Beach, now faces two charges for battery on a person over the age of 65, and two counts of aggravated assault/domestic violence.

Daucher lives with his great-grandparents, who told authorities the teen is known for having “anger outbursts” that can turn violent.

On Friday afternoon, Daucher hit his great-grandfather in the leg several times with a broom. He grasped the victim around the neck, pushed him into a wall, and waved a kitchen knife near the elderly man’s face, according to the arrest report.

Daucher also hit his great-grandmother several times when she tried to intervene, the report shows.

The great-grandparents told authorities Daucher also slammed a coffee mug on the floor and smashed in a wooden cabinet during the altercation.

Daucher verbally threatened to cause them harm throughout the incident, they told investigators.

They were able to leave the house and drive to safety.

Authorities reported seeing swelling in the grandfather’s leg along with several bruises on his body.

Daucher is being held in the Indian River County Jail on $100,000 bond.
