Nancy Finkbiner McCahan, 84, of Vero Beach, passed away on March 14, 2016, at Harbor Chase.
She is survived by her children David McCahan III (Narnie) of Amarillo, Texas, Rebekah McCahan of Havertown, Penn., Timothy McCahan (Liz) of Providence, R.I.; and her seven grandchildren whom she adored: Colby McCahan, Christine, Sarah, and Samantha Fickling, Alexandra, James, and Olivia McCahan.
She was recently predeceased by her husband David of 61 years.
McCahan was the daughter of the late Aaron C. F. and Christine P. Finkbiner, and was predeceased by her brothers Aaron C. F., Jr. and Rodman Finkbiner.
She grew up in the Curren Terrace section of Norristown, Penn., and was a graduate of the George School in 1949. She graduated from Wheaton College in 1953 with a degree in Psychology, and was active in the Wheaton Alumni Association. She and David McCahan, Jr. married in 1954 in Valley Forge, Penn.
She taught kindergarten at Episcopal Academy in Pennsylvania before moving to Barrington, R.I. in 1962. After raising her children she started a successful career as a real estate agent initially with Coleman Real Estate and then with Ryan Real Estate.
McCahan was active in numerous charities, most notably the United Way of Southeastern New England and The Junior League of Providence. She was a dedicated member of Barrington Presbyterian Church and served on the Session.
She was a talented artist who thoroughly enjoyed her time at the Handicraft Club in Providence. In addition, she was a long time member of the Rhode Island Country Club, The Daughters of the American Revolution and The Garden Club of Barrington.
McCahan was blessed with many wonderful friends and was a dedicated wife, mother, and grandmother.
A Memorial Service will be held at 11 a.m. Thursday, June 2, 2016 at the St. John’s Episcopal Church on 191 County Road, Barrington, RI. The burial will be private and held at a later date.
