John Carl Putnam Jr., 91, of Vero Beach, passed away on March 23, 2016, at VNA Hospice House.
He is survived by his daughter Susan Watson of Sebastian; two grandchildren and six great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his wife of 67 years, Ruth Anne Putman and son, Carl Brian Putman.
Putnam was born in Greenville, S.C., and lived in Sebastian coming from Venezuela in 1986.
He was a U.S. Army veteran having served in Europe during WWII and received a Bronze Star and Purple Heart. After the war he attended MIT on the GI Bill, where he received a Master’s Degree in Chemical Engineering.
He worked as a petroleum reservoir engineer for Exxon in Venezuela for 30 years. Upon retiring in 1986 he received a medal from the President of Venezuela for his contribution to the Venezuela economy. He returned to the United State where he moved to Sebastian in 1986 and lived with his wife until her passing in 2013.

A Graveside Service will be held at 11 a.m. on Wednesday, March 30, 2016 at Sebastian Cemetery, Sebastian.
