Eugene Taylor, 73, Vero Beach

Eugene Taylor, 73, of Vero Beach, passed away peacefully on March 23, 2016, at his home surrounded by loved ones.

He is survived by his beloved sister, Betty Tillman; his four children, Patricia Taylor Tankersley (Terry), Joseph E. Taylor (Marie), William P. Taylor (April), and Lenore Taylor Owle (Charlie); five grandchildren, Keith Tankersley (Kari), Kristy Tankersley, Lauren Taylor, Lindsay Taylor, Erica Owle, Kolby Taylor; and one great-grandchild, Emily Tankersley.

He was preceded in death by his loving wife Joyce Taylor, brother Glen Taylor, and sister MaryLou Taylor.

Taylor was born in Pikeville, Kent., to Pat and Della Taylor on May 10, 1942. He was a long time resident of Vero Beach.

He retired in the mid 1990’s from Treasure Coast Oil Inc. as a truck driver. He later worked at Dodgertown for several years.

Dad, Pops, Big Gene or Abe as many of his family and buddies would call him, was a simple man with the best sense of humor. He enjoyed spending time with friends and family, making them laugh and telling stories of the past. He also enjoyed working in his vegetable garden. His granddaughter, Lindsay, put it best, “My Pops had a way of making everything slow down and seem simple, just the way his garden flourished and the way we spent our time together.”

Memorial contributions may be made to the VNA Hospice House.
