INDIAN RIVER COUNTY — The Indian River County School District recognized 45 volunteers on March 11, for their service to Indian River County schools.
Dr. Mark Rendell along with School Board Chair Dale Simchick, and School Board Vice Chair Shawn Frost were present during a reception at the J.A. Thompson Administrative Center to recognize the 2016 Outstanding Volunteers of the Year and announce overall district
winners.
This year, 45 volunteers were recognized for the amount service hours, years of service, unusual contributions, and characteristics of services. After the school-based 2016 Outstanding Volunteers of the Year were announced, district level volunteers were awarded.
James Masterson, Joanne Holmes, and Megan Karachum were announced as the district level Senior, Adult, and Youth 2016 Outstanding Volunteers of the Year, respectively.
They received special recognition and will have their names submitted to the Florida Department of Education for the state competition.
Dr. Bill Fritz, Assistant Superintendent of Human Resources, said, “Great schools make great communities. Great communities make great schools. Volunteers’ efforts within the Indian River County School system make a difference in the lives of children, but also do much more.”
