Department of Health sponsors ‘Youth Taking Charge’ event April 2

INDIAN RIVER COUNTY — The Department of Health in Indian River County is sponsoring “Youth Taking Charge – Our Youth Standing to Make a Difference,” on April 2, from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. at the Gifford Youth Achievement Center.

Children are encouraged to bring a parent or a friend.

There will be give-aways to all parents that attend the event, and $50 gift drawings for those who stay until 2 p.m.

There will be free HIV and STD testing, and free food and giveaways.

Topics of discussion will include: bullying, cyberbullying, gangs, what happens when you go to jail, N.O.P.E (Narcotics Overdose Prevention and Education), how to respond when approached by law enforcement, teen dating violence, social media and safety, substance abuse and sexual abuse, teen pregnancy, and the department of juvenile justice.

Moses Cantu, of movie Ride Along 2, will be the guest speaker.

Youth can swim at the Gifford Center for $1 after the event.
