Sheriff’s Office achieves re-accreditation, Loar named Chairman of Commission

INDIAN RIVER COUNTY — In November and December 2015, on site compliance inspections were conducted at the Indian River County Sheriff’s Office for both the Florida Corrections Accreditation Commission (FCAC) and the Commission for Florida Law Enforcement Accreditation (CFA).

In late February 2016, the Indian River County Sheriff’s Office went before the boards of both accreditation commissions in Saint Augustine and received stellar reviews with full compliance noted for both divisions. The Indian River County Sheriff’s Office has been accredited by the CFA since 2004 and will be eligible for Excelsior Status in 2019 by successfully receiving full compliance for five consecutive re-accreditation cycles.

Indian River County Sheriff Deryl Loar was elected as the Chairman of the Commission for the CFA by his fellow commission members after five years of service on the board.

CFA Commission Members include Walton County Sheriff Mike Adkinson, Okaloosa County Sheriff Larry Ashley, Deputy Chief Inspector General Dawn Case, Oviedo Police Chief Jeffrey Chudnow, 4th Judicial Circuit Judge Robert Foster, St. Peterburg Police Chief Anthony Holloway, Florida Department of Law Enforcement General Counsel Jason Jones, Palm Beach County School District Police Chief Larry Leon, Sebastian Police Chief Michelle Morris, Brooksville City Manager Jenenne Norman-Vacha, Lee County Commissioner Cecil Pendergrass, and Monroe County Sheriff Rick Ramsay.

“We are proud to have been re-accredited by both the CFA and the FCAC. Our quadruple crown accreditation sets us apart from so many other agencies. Accreditation is the process by which we prove that we are doing what our policies say we do, and that we are in compliance with the most rigorous standards in law enforcement and corrections. I am honored to serve as the chair for CFA,” Sheriff Loar said in a statement.
