Master’s Academy student wins Dale Sorensen sponsored art contest

INDIAN RIVER COUNTY — Several Master’s Academy art students participated in the Dale Sorensen Art Contest in January. Victoria Vendryes, a 6th grade student, won first place with her Wave painting and received a scholarship to an art class at the Vero Beach Museum of Art as well as $250 in art supplies for the Master’s Academy Art Department directed by Mr. Gerry Geary.

The award presentation was on Friday, March 4, at the downtown Dale Sorensen offices from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. The artwork was on display during the First Friday Art Walk.

“We have so many artistically talented students at Master’s Academy and are proud of their accomplishments. Victoria did a wonderful job and we thank Dale Sorensen for this opportunity to share our students’ artwork with the community,” Geary said.

Master’s Academy high school art students attended a cultural field study at the Vero Beach Museum of Art on February 24. The students viewed the museum’s collection, including the exhibit entitled Nature Illuminated: Landscapes and Still Lifes by Heade and his Contemporaries.

Following the tour, students participated in an art workshop on Memorial Island where they created their own drawings of the Indian River Lagoon.

Master’s Academy’s lower and upper school student drawings, paintings, and oil pastels were on display at the Vero Beach Museum Eggert Gallery through March 12. The artwork on display included high school graphite portraits, kindergarten fall paintings, first grade oil pastel still lifes, and middle school drawing studies as well as a selection of lower school color pencil sketches.

Master’s Academy is located at 1105 58th Avenue in Vero Beach and offers excellence in academics, the arts, athletics, and service for students in Preschool through 12th grade. Enrollment is now open for the 2016-17 school year. To learn more, visit mastersvb.org or call 772-794-4655.
