Diane L. Andrews, 82, Vero Beach

Diane L. Andrews, 82, of Vero Beach, passed away peacefully at home on March 13, 2016.

She is remembered with love by her three children and families: John Douglas (Claudia) of Fredericksburg, Va.; Robin Andrews Perros (Adam) of Cape Town, South Africa; and Leslie Andrews Wallace (Joseph) of Potomac, Md.; sister Dolores of Atlantis, Fla.; six wonderful grandchildren: Jay, Clara, Daniela, Sara, May and Henry; and nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her loving husband of 55 years, Robert W. Andrews, who passed away in December 2014. She was also predeceased by her brother David.

After attending University of Bridgeport, Andrews enlisted in the U.S. Navy and became the first female air traffic controller at Pensacola Naval Air Station. After an Honorable Discharge in 1953, she began a long career as an operations officer with the Central Intelligence Agency where she served with distinction until her retirement.

Prior to moving to Vero Beach in 2012, she and Bob spent 20 years as residents of Queens Cove on North Hutchinson Island where she is fondly remembered as an active volunteer and great neighbor. She continued her service to the community after their move to The Brennity, even while caring for Bob in his later years.

She will be long remembered by her friends and family for her tireless efforts on behalf of the welfare of her family and communities as well as for her quick wit. She will be missed by all whose paths she crossed.

Inurnment will be held at Arlington National Cemetery at a later date. The family requests donations to VNA Hospice House, 1110 35th Lane, Vero Beach, Florida 32960.
