Bank robber arrested in Fellsmere, confesses to others

FELLSMERE — A bank robbery suspect was arrested in Fellsmere Wednesday afternoon, an arrest that involved the Indian River Sheriff’s Office, Sebastian and Fellsmere Police.

John Bertrand, 46, was arrested at the RaceWay gas station on County Road 512 Wednesday around 4 p.m. after authorities say he robbed a TD Bank on Merritt Island Causeway in Brevard County. The money stolen from the bank was around $900.

During the arrest he also confessed to Sebastian Police that he committed two other robberies. 

The two other robberies occurred in Cocoa on March 6, and Vero Beach, March 7. The Vero Beach robbery was at Dollar General, at 660 21st Street, Saturday around 1 p.m. 

Bertrand was arrested by a Palm Bay police officer at the gas station. He is suspected of being involved in other unrelated robberies. 

He is being held at the Indian River County Jail in lieu of a $1.5 million bond.
