Bridge jumper tasered, saved from 17th St. bridge

VERO BEACH — A person trying to jump from the 17th Street Bridge has been saved by Vero Beach Police.

Around 11 a.m., police responded to the bridge in the eastbound lane, to a person who was threatening to jump over the railing, according to police. He refused to talk to officers. 

The eastbound lane was shut down for safety purposes, according to authorities. When he moved closer to the railing one of the officers used their taser to safely end the situation. 

The would-be jumper was transported by EMS to the Indian River Medical Center to be evaluated through a Law Enforcement Baker Act.
