VERO BEACH — The St. Lucie County Bomb Squad determined the grenade they disposed of in Vero Beach was, in fact, a novelty item.
Homes had been evacuated following the discovery of the grenade in a neighbor’s yard along 12th Avenue in Vero Beach.
The area of 12th Avenue between 28th and 29th streets had been locked down but was eventually reopened following the bomb squad’s recovery.
The Vero Beach Municipal Airport also had been alerted because planes were flying too low.
