Driver high on drugs strikes pedestrian

VERO BEACH — A driver told authorities he was high on drugs when struck and injured a pedestrian just before midnight Tuesday, resulting in his arrest.

Oliver Coq, 22, of Fort Pierce, was arrested in the 1200 block of Old Dixie Highway where the incident occurred. He faces one misdemeanor charge for DUI with personal injury.

The victim and the defendant were seated next to each other on a bench when police arrived. The victim identified Coq as the driver of the vehicle who hit him, according to the arrest report.

The victim was treated for injuries, the report shows.

Coq told authorities he was high on Flakka, but later revoked his statement, saying instead he drank “mushroom tea.”

He failed several sobriety tests during the DUI investigation, but a Breathalyzer test returned a result of .000 blood alcohol concentration.

He is being held in lieu of $1,000 bond.
