Driver ID’d in fatal Sunday SR 60 crash

INDIAN RIVER COUNTY — One person died in a single car crash at State Road 60 and Blue Cypress Lake Road Sunday afternoon.

Jack Holzmacher, 18, of Palm City, was traveling eastbound on SR 60 when he lost control of his 2002 Ford Mustang for an unknown reason, according to the Florida Highway Patrol. He began traveling in a northeasterly direction onto the unpaved northern shoulder.

Holzmacher attempted to regain control of the car by steering left which caused it to travel in a southeasterly direction across the roadway onto the unpaved southern shoulder.

He collided with a tree and was ejected from the vehicle. He was not wearing a seat belt. The results of a test to find out if alcohol was related are pending.

The incident happened around 4:30 p.m., according to authorities.

Holzmacher was pronounced dead at the scene, according to FHP.

The cause of the crash remains under investigation.
