Robert Karl ‘Bob’ Nielsen, 84, of Vero Beach, passed away at Indian River Medical Center on Jan. 26. 2016.
He is survived by his loving wife Bette; his three sons and their families: Kris and Laura of Rockville Centre, N.Y., Craig of Oakland, N.J., and David and Lisa of Stow, Mass.; and his seven very special and adored grandchildren: Brian, Derek, Kristian and Jack of N.Y.; Connor and Carissa of N.J.; and Andrew of Mass.
Nielson was born and raised in Connecticut. After high school he enlisted in the U.S. Army and served most of his two-plus years as an M.P. in Japan during the Korean War.
He attended the Wharton School of business at University of Pennsylvania where he became a member of Phi Gamma Delta fraternity and graduated with a degree in economics.
Following college, Nielson spent his entire working career at American Cyanamid in the finance area running a number of offices, and ending his career in Wayne, N.J. Upon retiring he and Bette settled in Vero Beach,first as snowbirds, and then year-round for the last 10 years.
His main passions were golf, walking many miles for exercise, and spending time with his family. He and Bette have been long-time members of Hackensack Golf Club, in Oradell, N.J., and of Grand Harbor Golf and Beach Club, in Vero Beach.

The family will receive friends from 5 to 8 p.m., Sunday, Jan. 31, 2016 at the Strunk Funeral Home in Vero Beach with a prayer service at 6:30 p.m. Mass will be celebrated at 10 a.m., Monday, Feb. 1, 2016 at Holy Cross Catholic Church in Vero Beach.
Cremation will be followed by burial at a later time in Essex, Conn., his childhood home.
