INDIAN RIVER COUNTY — The Live Like Cole Foundation announced today that it has received its official 501 (c) (3) status from the IRS, a major achievement that validates The Live Like Cole Foundation’s approach and efforts.
The Foundation is currently raising funds for its initial launch project – the design and construction of a public fishing pier. The pier will serve the public at large by providing a new and safe place for people of all ages to fish along the Indian River Lagoon while helping create a brand new ecosystem in which fish and other marine life will thrive.
Melanie Coppolla, CEO of the Live Like Cole Foundation said, “One of our first goals was to secure our 501 (c) (3) status, which enables the Live Like Cole Foundation to provide US donors a tax deduction for their donation and provides a number of legal and financial benefits to the organization. We are very grateful for the support that we have through our Board of Directors, who provided the necessary services to establish the Foundation and apply for this tax exempt designation.”
Coppola said they can now turn their attention towards raising the necessary funds to complete the public fishing pier. The Cole Coppola pier project is part of a private public partnership with the City of Vero Beach and a matching grant from the Florida Inland Navigational District.
Following the completion of the pier project, the foundation will continue Cole Coppola’s legacy by raising funds in support of other non-profit organizations and philanthropic projects that Cole was passionate about and are in line with the Foundation’s mission.
The mission of the Live Like Cole Foundation is to inspire teens to become passionate about protecting our waterways, lagoon and all living things while developing their character, sportsmanship, and love of learning.
Cole Coppola died as a result of injuries suffered after being hit by a car while riding his bike on the Alma Lee Loy Bridge days after his 16th birthday. The passionate manner in which Cole lived his life and the positive impact that he had on many lives serves as a reminder to “Live Live Cole” and continue his legacy by making a positive impact on the community and the lives of others.
