Fixes for the auditory woes inside the Sebastian City Council’s chambers are essentially done and have seemed to have addressed the ills that plagued the meeting room.
“Things have been going well,” City Manager Joe Griffin said. If complaints return, however, the City will re-evaluate to see if more needs to be done.
The changes to the Chamber include the large logo on the wall behind the dais, which has helped dampen sound, as well as improvements to the audio-visual technology used to record and amplify the meetings.
Problems with hearing and understanding during meetings in the high-ceilinged room, both among members of the audience and those on the dais, had been common occurrences, and some board and audience members were known to rely on headphones to hear.
Griffin said the City plans to also upgrade the cameras used for the meetings at a future date. New acoustical paneling that had been discussed has been placed on hold until the Council decides if the changes already done have solved the problems.
Along with upgrades to the Chambers, Griffin said the City has a laundry list of improvements planned for the entire City Hall complex.
Among those projects is repainting of City Hall and improving the parking lot.
