Marilyn June ‘Libby’ Fried, 86, of Vero Beach, died on Jan. 14, 2016, of natural causes, at her home, surrounded by her loving family.
She is survived by her daughter Debbie Fried Kane; grandchildren Joshua William and Stephanie Elise (twins), and Jennifer Ann; sisters Nihla (Bob) Lapidus of Middletown, Conn., Gail Freedman (Phil) of Manchester, Conn., and Diane (Ed) Schwartz of East Haven, Conn.; sister-in-law Henrietta Fried Stolzman of Wallingford, Conn.; best friends Ed and Gladys Aller of Vero Beach; Mahjongg friends, and many other friends.
She was preceded in death by her husband of 55 years, John Hartman Fried.
Fried was the oldest of four daughters of Samuel and Sylvia Lassow Libby.
She and her husband came to Vero Beach in 2006 from Old Lyme, Conn.
Fried was a 1946 graduate of Weaver High school, Hartford, Conn., and graduate of Hartford College, Hartford, Conn., and was Valedictorian of her class at Eastman School of Dental Hygienist Rochester, N.Y. She worked in local dental offices for 39 years.
She was past president of B’nai Brith Women, a life member of Hadassah, docent at the Florence Griswold Museum, volunteer at the Lawrence Memorial Hospital in New London, Conn., member of Literacy Volunteers, the Rape Victims Crisis Intervention, and many other charitable organizations.
Fried was a member of Temple Emanuel in Waterford, Conn., Beth Shalom and its Sisterhood in Vero Beach.
Services will be on Jan. 17, at 12:30 p.m. at Strunk Funeral Home, 916 17th Street, Vero Beach, FL 32960. (772) 562-2325.
Burial will follow at Beth El Memorial Cemetery, Old Dixie Highway, 1 mile S of Indrio Road, Fort Pierce.
