Man tries to run over his girlfriend in parking lot

VERO BEACH — On-lookers reported a man trying to run over his girlfriend in the parking lot at The Source Thrift Shop in Vero Beach over the weekend.

The man, identified as Rodney Adams, 35, of 1455 15th Ave., was arrested and now faces charges that include felony aggravated assault and misdemeanor battery domestic violence.

Witnesses reported Adams was driving a four-door Mitsubishi, chasing a woman who was running to avoid being struck.

The victim, Adams’ girlfriend, reported Adams pulled into the parking lot as the two were engaged in a verbal dispute. She exited the vehicle and he began chasing her.

The victim said she had to jump out of Adams’ way multiple times, and used an unoccupied Jeep as a barrier between her and the car Adams was driving, according to the arrest report.

Adams told police he did not remember if he was “driving aggressively,” adding he was not trying to hit his girlfriend, but trying to pull up next to her.

Police had responded to a dispute between the two earlier the same day, according to the report. Adams was arrested 10 days prior on a domestic violence charge.

He is being held in the Indian River County Jail in lieu of $5,000 bond.
