Lynda Smith Johnson, 72, of Vero Beach, passed away on Dec. 19, 2015, at VNA Hospice House after her brave battle with cancer.
She is survived by her husband of 29 years, Tim Johnson; daughter Kathleen McMullan Olsen of Lakeland, Fla.; stepchildren Michael C. Johnson (Tia) of Severna Park, Md. and Tracy Johnson Cota (Rob) of Redondo Beach, Calif.; her grandchildren: Deacon Olsen, Josephine Olsen, Maile Johnson, Elle Johnson, Shayla Cota and Finn Cota; her sister Shirley Smith Berger (Pat) of Marianna, Fla.; and brother Mike Smith (Gloria) of No. Las Vegas, Nev.
Johnson was born in Los Angeles, Calif., to Lloyd Valentine Smith and Florence Elizabeth Grover. She was the oldest of four children and grew up camping and waterskiing and enjoying her close-knit family.
Following her graduation from Glendale High School, she studied accounting at Glendale Community College, and photography in later years. She had a keen eye, and her camera helped her share the beauty she saw in nature, travel, food and all things she loved with her family and friends.
Johnson spent almost 20 years living in Honolulu, Hawaii. She served as the Executive Secretary of the Rotary Club of Honolulu – the first Rotary Club in Honolulu. She was recognized as a Paul Harris Fellow following her 17 years of service to the organization.
Originally from Southern California, she retired in Paso Robles, Calif., with her husband Tim in 2001. They relocated to Vero Beach in 2012. Prior to her illness, she volunteered at the Humane Society Thrift Shop where she was “the book lady.”
A celebration of life service will be held Saturday, Jan. 30 at the Isles of Waterways Club House in Vero Beach at 11 a.m. at the clubhouse at 5350 Waterway Village Blvd. Casual attire is recommended for services.
