Jeffrey Allen Mieras, 58, of Vero Beach, passed away on Jan. 2, 2016, with his family by his side.
He is survived by his wife Dianne; daughters Lindsey (Keith) Przeclawski and Molly; his mother Jean Valentine and his father Jack Mieras; sisters June (Jeff) Hall, Nicole (Jimmy) Boles and Tiffany (Charles) Steele; brothers John (Susan), Jay (Shannon) and James; grandson Westley; numerous nieces and nephews; and his doggie and closest friend Gibbs.
Mieras was born in Newport, R.I. He lived in Michigan, Missouri and North Dakota where he attended Bismarck High School, Dickinson State College and North Dakota State University in Fargo. This is where he learned to be such a “tough guy” by being on the wrestling team. After moving to Florida he graduated with his nursing degree from Indian River State College.
He was employed by Indian River Hospital as an ICU Nurse for many years until Dr. Gerald Pierone recruited him to work as a Clinical Research Director for Treasure Coast Infectious Diseases. In 2009, he returned to the ICU at Indian River Hospital and although he was determined to continue to help his patients his body would no longer cooperate while fighting through cancer treatment.
Mieras served his country in the Army Reserves.
When he was not at work, many of the things he enjoyed were taking long rides on his Harley, sailing on the Intracoastal, cooking for family and friends, scuba diving, fishing, going to the movies, traveling, working out at the boxing gym and having fun playing with his Gordon Setters.
A celebration of life gathering will take place Saturday, Jan. 9, 2016 from 5 to 8 p.m. at The Plaza, 884 17th Street (adjacent to Strunk Funeral Home) in Vero Beach.
