Walter R. “Wally” Evans, 83, of Sebastian, passed away on Jan. 1, 2016, after a prolonged illness, at his residence and surrounded by his family.
He is survived by his wife Beatrice Ann Evans; his children Douglas (Laurie), Nadine, and Catherine Evans; daughter-in-law Jo Ann Voeller; grandchildren Benjamin, Amelia, and Joseph Evans, Jeffery Potts (Helen), Ryan Potts (Melanie), and Cassandra Potts; his step grandchildren Matthew Juarez, Christina Dean (Christopher), and Alex Juarez (Stacie); his great-grandchildren Skylar, Ayden, Landen and Tommie (Ryan and Melanie), Dixie, Aldon, Mattie, and Liam (Jeff and Helen), Kinsley (Alex and Stacie), and Savannah Grace (Christina and Christopher).
Evans was born Nov. 20, 1932 in Williamsville, N.Y., the only child of Walter and Gertrude (Schuler) Evans.
In his youth he was an avid Boy Scout and rose to the highest rank of Eagle Scout and was a member of the prestigious Order of the Arrow.
He married Beatrice “Bea” Berger of Williamsville, N.Y. on Oct. 29, 1955 and was a businessman in Williamsville owning and operating Mill Street Auto Service, then Wehrle Motors.
He was also a community leader in Williamsville working tirelessly to support and raise money for youth activities and youth sports in the benevolent organization he proudly helped found, The Jolly Boys of Williamsville.
Upon his retirement he and Bea moved to Sebastian Florida where he made many friends in his employment at Walmart and his activities in the Sebastian Elks Club.
A memorial service will be held Friday, Jan. 8, 2016 at 11 a.m. at the Seawinds Funeral Home, 735 S Fleming St, Sebastian FL 32958.
A reception is to follow at The Sebastian Elks Lodge, 731 S Fleming St. Sebastian FL, 32958. The family is requesting that in lieu of flowers a memorial may be made to the Alzheimer’s Association.
