Howard A. Mackie, 74, of Vero Beach, passed away on Dec. 27, 2015, after an extended illness.
He is survived by his wife of 23 years, Anne; sister Priscilla Mackie Blake of Hopkinton N.H., his first wife, Anna Goffe Mackie and their children Heather Mackie Wulkan, of Coconut Grove, Fla., and Howard Asa Mackie, Jr. and his daughter Emma of Charlotte, N.C.; his stepdaughter Lisa Burford, stepson John Pyle and five step granddaughters and one step-grandson. He has many nieces and nephews from New England to Florida.
He was predeceased by his parents Marian and Ernest Mackie of White River Junction, Vt., brother Ronald E. Mackie, of Jacksonville, and sister Carolyn Harju of Hyannis, Mass.

Mackie was born in Norwood, Mass., and grew up in Cape Cod, Mass. He attended Hyannis Elementary and Barnstable High School. In 1957 his family moved to White River Junction, Vt., where he graduated from Hartford High School.
He attended Lyndon Teachers College and then worked for Cumberland Farms, moving to south Florida as a District Supervisor. Years later, Mackie and his second wife, Anne opened Mackie Mart stores in St. Lucie and Martin Counties.
The funeral service will be held Saturday, Jan. 9 at 10 a.m. at the Lighthouse Church of God, 529 24th Avenue, Vero Beach. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the American Diabetes Association.
