Louis E. Buck, 96, of Indian River Estates, passed away on Dec. 21, 2015.
He was formerly a long-time resident of Indian River Shores and was born in Hartford, Conn., to Ernest and Christine Buck on July 24, 1919. He had retired as an Assistant Vice President of Aetna Casualty and Surety Company and was also retired as a Lieutenant Colonel in the U.S. Army having served in the European Theater during World War II.
He graduated from Trinity College, Class of 1941, and received further education at the University of Illinois, Columbia University and received additional education through the University of Connecticut, College of Law and Insurance.
During his time as a resident of Indian River Shores, he was active in Condominium matters and Town affairs. He served as President of Park Shores Condominium Association and was the Co-Founder and Director of CHAIR (Condominium and Homeowner’s Association of Indian River County).
Buck was also very active for many years in the Town of Indian River Shores having served as a Councilman and Vice Mayor as well as the Chairman of Town Finance Committee and Co-Chair of the Town Insurance Committee. For his service, he was awarded the “Ted Brown” award by the Taxpayer’s Association of Indian River County for his services to all County residents.
He married the former Dorothy Carrier on Nov. 7, 1942 and they recently celebrated their 73rd Anniversary. They have two children, Dr. Diane L. Buck-Schreck (William) currently of Vero Beach, and Beverly B. Gidley (Stephen) of Wilton, Conn. They have one grandchild, Emilie Gidley, of New York City.
Buck was a long term member of the Vero Beach Yacht Club, the Sea Oaks Beach and Tennis Club as well as the Military Officers’ Association.
