FELLSMERE — The U.S. Navy Armed Guard and Merchant Marine meeting will be held at Marsh Landing Restaurant, 44 North Broadway, Fellsmere, on Dec. 19, at 9 a.m.
The featured speaker will be LCDR Jim Landis, Retired Senior Naval Science Instructor, and Navy JROTC Program head at Sebastian River High School.
LCDR Landis is a native of Toledo, Ohio. He graduated from the University of North Florida with Bachelor of Arts degree in Political Science in 2001. He was commissioned upon completion of Naval Reserve Officer Training (NROTC) at Jacksonville University that same year and was designated a Naval Aviator in March 2003 in Milton, Fla. He served in Iraq and joined the “Blackjacks” on the USS Kearsarge.
He has had more then 2300 flight hours. His service in the US Navy is too numerous to mention.
Come and enjoy the camaraderie of old shipmates and meet new people. Everyone is welcome at the meetings and all are encouraged to bring a friend. The group includes members from all branches of the service as well as sons and daughters, widows and widowers of those who served.
In recent months, the group has hosted a lineup of great speakers.
A good Samaritan stepped up and paid for the entire group’s meal for Veterans Day. The veterans and service members extend thanks and a “God bless you” to the person who paid the bill.

Space Coast Honor Flight meetings are now held every third Tuesday of the month, at 11:30 a.m., at Captain Hiram’s in Sebastian. Lunch is at the individual’s expense.
The speaker for the Jan. 16 meeting will be astronaut Wiston Scott, Captain USN.
