More than 310 runners participated in last Saturday’s Girls on the Run 5K at South Beach to benefit Girls on the Run of the Treasure Coast, including 90 of the 123 girls enrolled in the physical activity based youth development program.
Another 30 girls from Fellsmere ran at a race at Fellsmere Elementary School, one of six IRC schools offering the program to girls in third through fifth grade. The race was as much celebratory as competitive for the GOTR girls, each partnered with a running buddy as they made their way to the finish line, cheered on by coaches and family members with signs and words of encouragement.
