John Anthony Aversa, 94, Vero Beach

John Anthony Aversa, 94, of Vero Beach, formerly of Upper Saddle River, N.J., passed away peacefully on Dec. 11, 2015, in his home at Oak Harbor.

He is survived his wife Catherine Aversa; son Anthony (Peggy) Aversa and their children Anthony (Paula), Lisa (Joey) Bishop, and Jennifer of Vero Beach; son Edward Aversa of Palm Coast and Cindy Trevino-Aversa and their children Christopher and Alex; daughter Linda (John) Colontrelle of Vero Beach and their children John (Emily) , Danny (Shelley), Maria and Laura (Marco) Radocaj; son Dennis (Christina) Aversa and their daughter Danielle of Vero Beach and Highland Mills, N.Y.; stepdaughter Kathleen McCarthy of Vero Beach and Stepson Brian McCarty of Bergenfield, N.J. He was blessed to have 11 grandchildren and 13 great-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his first wife of 35 years, Marie Aversa; brother Joseph Aversa; and grandson Michael Trevino-Aversa.

Aversa was born and raised in New York City, graduating from City College. He earned his degree in engineering and started his own business, Manor Petroleum Fuel Company in Bergenfield, N.J. He served as President of Bergen State Bank and broker of Manor Realty. He was a lifetime member of the Knights of Columbus, U.N.I.C.O. and served as councilman in Bergenfield.

Celebration of his life will take place on Saturday, December 19th at Holy Cross Church in Vero Beach at 10:00 A.M. He will be transferred to Riewerts Funeral Home in Bergenfield, New Jersey, for a mass at The Church of the Presentation in Upper Saddle River, N. J. and interred at St. Joseph’s Cemetery in Hackensack, N.J.

Arrangements are under the direction of Strunk Funeral Home and Crematory, Vero Beach.
