School District accepting magnet school applications through Feb. 1

INDIAN RIVER COUNTY — The School District of Indian River County will be accepting magnet school applications for students entering kindergarten next school year between Dec. 1 and Feb. 1. Applications can be picked up and returned to the Attendance Office at 1426 18th Street, the School District Office at 6500 57th Street, or any of the magnet schools.

Families may indicate on the application their 1st, 2nd, or 3rd choice of schools. The three magnet schools in Indian River County are Osceola Magnet, Rosewood Magnet, and Liberty Magnet.

Kindergarten slots are filled by a lottery and student applications will be given a computer-generated number to determine their rank in the lottery. Kindergarten siblings of students currently attending one of the three magnet schools will automatically be accepted, if they have an application on file by 5 p.m. on Feb. 1.

In order to enter kindergarten for the next school year, students must be 5 years old on or before Sept. 1, 2016. Also, families who apply for their student to attend a magnet school must agree to commit to follow specific guidelines, as indicated on the application.

Applications will be accepted until 5 p.m. on Feb. 1, 2016. Families will be notified by mail of their acceptance or non-acceptance. Please contact Deb Berg, Director of Elementary Education, for assistance or further information at (772) 564-3014 or (772) 564-3100.
