Henry August Kirchdorfer Jr., 87, of Vero Beach, passed away on Dec. 2, 2015 at his home with his wife Betsy Wiggins Kirchdorfer and his daughter, (Sally) Sarah F. Douglass at his side.
He is survived by his wife Betsy, nee Wiggins, Kirchdorfer of Vero Beach and Sunapee, N.H.; daughter (Sally) Sarah F. Douglass of Denver, Colo.; sons Robert Douglass (Rebecca) Kirchdorfer of Denver, Colo., Henry August III (Melanie) Kirchdorfer of Stockbridge, Mass., grandsons Henry August IV and Jared Kirchdorfer; granddaughters Jazarae (Eddie) McCormick and Summer Arnold; and great-grandsons Jordan and Austin Arnold and Aidan Coffman.
He was preceded in death by his parents Henry August and Julia, nee Iltis, Kirchdorfer; his youngest son Samuel Pond Kirchdorfer; his first wife Phyllis, nee Douglass, Kirchdorfer; his sister Margaret (Morey) and third wife, Avis, nee Ruggeri, Kirchdorfer.
Kirchdorfer was born on June 17, 1928 in Ridgewood, Queens, N.Y.
He attended Pratt Institute in Brooklyn, N.Y., graduating with a degree in mechanical engineering. He worked his entire career at General Electric Company, starting in 1949 in Schenectady, N.Y. in the Steam Turbine Division.
He retired in 1987 after working in Pittsfield, Mass., in the Ordinance Department as Manager of Logistics Documentation.
Kirchdorfer enjoyed playing golf, traveling and meeting new people. He was loved by family and friends.
Memorial service will be held at a later date in Greenfield, Mass.
