Man accused of sexual battery on child during sleepover

INDIAN RIVER COUNTY — An Indian River County father is in jail without bond after he was accused of sexually assaulting a young girl .

Leonard Scott, 37, of the 4200 25th Ave., Vero Beach, faces a felony charge of capital sexual battery on a victim under 12 years old. He also faces one misdemeanor charge of resisting arrest without violence.

The incident occurred in the defendant’s home when his young daughter had a friend over to spend the night, according to the arrest report.

The victim reported Scott threatened to kidnap her and talked of a man by the name of “Willie Jones.”

Willie Jones may be Scott’s alter ego, according to the arrest report.

A search of Scott’s home yielded a photograph of a young child with a Cinderella costume found hanging in his room above his television. Scott told authorities the picture was a joke between him and his daughter.

Scott denied the allegations of sexual battery.

According to the Indian River County Sheriff’s Department, Scott was arrested in 1997 for lewd and lascivious acts on a child.

As a registered sex offender, Scott was arrested in October 2011 for failing to report changes to law enforcement and again for violating sex offender residency restrictions. He was arrested in August 2013 on similar charges.
