Lucy Lee Jones, 91, Vero Beach

Lucy Lee Jones, 91, of Vero Beach, much loved wife, mother, grandmother and great-grandmother passed away peacefully on Oct. 21, 2015 at VNA Hospice House, Vero Beach.

She is survived by her four daughters, Lucy Lee Russell, Susan Russell McConnell (Ross), Helena Rose Cochran-Jones (Michael) and Robin Jones Sistowicz (Ed); four grandchildren; two great-grandchildren; and her brother Samuel G. Miller (Jean).

She was preceded in death by her beloved husband, Everett O. Jones.

Jones was born on Dec. 18, 1923 in Louisville, Kent., the first child of John Gordon Miller and Lucy Lee Miller. She was blessed with many wonderful friends all around the world.

Throughout her life, she excelled in many activities including golf, bridge, croquet, tennis, paddle tennis, curling and community service. She and Everett joined John’s Island Club in 1973 and became permanent residents in 1980.

Jones was instrumental in establishing the Women’s Golf Association and was its first President. As a long standing member of People to People Golf Association, she and Everett played golf around the world including India, Hong Kong, Brazil, South Africa and Europe.

In 2009, she became a Bronze Life Master and in 2013 became a Silver Life Master of the ACBL. She was instrumental in the original purchase of McKee Botanical Garden Property and became an honorary board member.

In 1981, she was an active member of the John’s Island Garden Club and won the Eleanor Attwell Award in 2014, she became an honorary member in 2015. Her love of the arts was shown through her support of the Vero Beach Museum of Art.

A memorial service celebrating the life of Lucy Lee Jones will begin at 11 a.m., Monday, Dec. 21, 2015 at the Community Church of Vero Beach.
