Police, Humane Society investigate animal abuse case

VERO BEACH — The Vero Beach Police Department and the Humane Society are investigating a case of animal abuse after two Good Samaritans discovered and rescued two puppies that wandered onto the Vero Beach Country Club’s golf course.

The Humane Society of Vero Beach and Indian River County, along with police, are seeking the public’s help in finding those responsible for the puppies’ condition. The puppies are 5 months old and are a bulldog-mix.

“As animal advocates, The Humane Society and the Vero Beach Police Department will do everything possible to seek justice for these animals,” Humane Society Executive Director Chalmers Morse said.

Vero Beach Animal Control Officer Bruce Dangerfield brought the puppies to the Humane Society where they received immediate veterinary attention.

Both dogs are being treated for malnourishment, starvation and mange, according to veterinarian Deb Anderson.
