Annual Vero Beach Christmas parade kicks off Dec. 5

VERO BEACH — The annual Vero Beach Christmas parade will be held Saturday, Dec. 5, 2015. The parade kicks off at 6 p.m., but festivities will begin early at 5:15 p.m. with the Candy Cane 3k Run. The Boy Scouts will be collecting for the Rotary Chuck Wagon, so please bring a non-perishable item to the parade for collection.

The parade will be judged in each of the following categories. Congrats to last year’s reigning champions!

Most Holiday Spirit – Jim Rott Home Improvement & Air Conditioning Inc.

Most Enthusiastic – Vero Beach Cobras

Most Original –Vero Beach Elementary School

Best Performance – Vero Beach High School Band

Legacy award – Dubose and Sons Jewelers Inc.

Host Humorous – Bark Avenue

Best of parade – Piper Beach Aircraft Inc.

PARADE SCHEDULE & STREET CLOSINGS:

The parade will stage at Riverside Park with a final staging on Cardinal Drive and will run from Flamevine to Live Oak (just before JC Park) on Ocean Drive between 6 and 7:30 p.m. People are encouraged to come early and visit the businesses, shops, hotels and restaurants, without whose support the parade would not exist.

STREET CLOSINGS:

5 p.m.: Ocean Drive closed from Indian Lilac to South of Flamevine

5 p.m.: Silver Palm closed from Live Oak to Conn Way

5:15 p.m.: Flamevine closed from Eagle to Ocean Drive

5:15 to 5:50 p.m.: Silver Palm, Eagle, Date Palm, Eugenia, Fiddlewood, Greytwig, Holly, & Indian Lilac closed from A1A to Ocean Drive.

5:30 p.m.: Cardinal Drive & Cross Streets to GayFeather

5:50 p.m.: Mango and Conn Way closed from A1A to Ocean Drive.

5:15 p.m.: Candy Cane 3K on Ocean Drive and Eagle to Indian Lilac

6 p.m.: Parade on Ocean Drive from Flamevine to Live Oak
