Carl Andrew Henderson, 82, of Vero Beach, passed away on Nov. 21, 2015, at Indian River Medical Center.
He is survived by his cousin Gail Schaber of Sebastian; step-daughter Claudia Trombly; son-in-law Matthew Hayden; grandchildren Kaley and Austin Brunner of Vero Beach; nephew Rusty Vitanza of Binghamton, N.Y.; nieces Joanne Smith of Norwalk, Conn., Deborah Hicks of Dahlonega, Ga., and Valerie Weiss (Samuel) and their children Candence and Logan of Scotch Plain, N.J.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Marie Henderson.
Henderson was born in Plainfield, N.J. He lived in Edison, N.J. and retired to Vero Beach in 1989 with his wife Marie.
He served in the U.S. Navy and discharged with honors in 1952. He then served as a police officer for 26 years with the Edison Police Department. He retired as a Lieutenant.
In conjunction with his duties as a police officer he had his own plumbing business, was a member of the Moose Lodge and Italian American Club in Edison, N.J. After retiring to Florida he became an avid golfer at Sandridge Golf Course in Vero Beach
A Visitation will be held Sunday, Nov. 29, 2015 at Strunk Funeral Home in Vero Beach from 1 to 3 p.m. Military Honors by the Sebastian Veterans Honor Guard will be held at 3 p.m. at the funeral home. Interment will be at Rosehill Crematory in Linden, N.J. in January of 2016.
