Shirley Lloyd Bovett, 92, of Vero Beach, passed away at her home on Nov. 20, 2015, after a very brief illness.
She is survived by her dear husband Arthur, and many childhood friends.
Bovett grew up in Ottumwa, Iowa and graduated from Iowa State University. She married Art after World War II and spent many years in Nebraska, Indiana, and Pennsylvania. They fell in love with Vero Beach and lived their last years here.
Her remains will be combined with her husband’s and interred at a later date. Ever the artisan, Bovett was at work on her poems and handcrafted holiday cards at the time of her passing. A basket of half knitted baby hats sit next to stacks of books waiting to be read.
She was able to say her goodbyes to her daughter, Leigh Bovett Hoppe, and son, Jerre Bovett. Loyal retriever Sophie was by her bed at the end and terrier Bernie slept nearby. Family, friends and dogs have lost a very special person.
At Shirley’s request, no memorial service will be held. In lieu of flowers, feel free to support the VNA Hospice of Indian River County.
