Dorothy Jane Johnson, of Vero Beach, passed away peacefully on Oct. 31, 2015, at a nursing home after a 7-year battle with Alzheimer’s Disease.
She is survived by sons Patrick, Michael, Corry, and Tony; daughter Jennifer; daughter-in-law Tammy; and grandchildren Ciarra Johnson, Emma Johnson, Will and Ben Johnson, Katie and Doug Letheren, and Stephen and Christopher Lee.
She is preceded in death by her son, Matthew, and her husband of 55-years, William “Bill” Johnson.
Johnson was born March 8, 1928 in St. Alban’s, N.Y., and moved to Amherst in 1965.
A devoted mother of five sons and one daughter, Johnson worked tirelessly as a full-time mother to her children, while pursuing passions that included tennis, paddle tennis and working for the League of Women Voters of New Hampshire.
She also created and coached the girl’s tennis team at Mt. St. Mary’s Seminary High School in Nashua. Later, after her children went off to college, Johnson became a fashion buyer for McQuade’s Department Store in Manchester. She was known for her grace and beauty, both inside and out, and for her wonderful laugh and smile.
Funeral services will be held at St. Patrick’s Church, 34 Amherst Street, Milford, N.H. at 11 a.m. Saturday, Nov. 21, 2015.
