George W. ‘Bud’ Lewisy Jr., 89, Vero Beach

George W. ‘Bud’ Lewisy Jr., 89, of Vero Beach, passed away on Oct. 29, 2015, surrounded by his family. He waged a long, hard fought battle with acute myeloid leukemia.

He is survived by his wife of 46 years, Mary Lewisy formerly of Smithtown, Long Island; daughter Deborah Rose; sister Jean Carroll Knox; brother Richard A. Lewisy; four grandchildren and four great-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his daughter Irene Bean.

Lewisy moved to Vero Beach from his hometown of Northport, after his retirement from the family business, Lewisy Fuel Oil and Northport Plumbing Supply.

He left school to serve in the US Navy during WWII, from 1944 through 1946. He was aboard the USS Montpelier and was awarded the European Theater Medal, the American Theater Medal, and the Victory Medal. He received his diploma of Graduation from Northport High School in 2005, during a special ceremony held at the Northport American Legion.

Lewisy was a member of the Northport Fire Dept. from 1948 to 1976 and served as chief from 1964 to 1966.

He was a Northport Village Trustee from 1966 to 1995 and served as Deputy Mayor for many of those years.

Lewisy was also the President and Chairman of the Board for the Indian Hills Golf Club in Fort Salonga in the 1980’s. He was an avid golfer and world traveler.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 12 p.m. on Nov. 20, 2015 at St. Helen’s Catholic Church. There will be a reception for family and friends after the service at Quail Valley Country Club 2345 Highway A1A, Vero Beach, Fl 32963.

Inurnment will take place at a future date at Our Lady Queen of Heaven, North Lauderdale, Fla.
