Daniel L. Rugen, 95, of Vero Beach, passed away after a brief stay at the VNA Hospice House.
He is survived by his sister Harriet “Happy” and by his son Michael, daughter-in-law Jeannine Kay, and grandsons Travis and Jesse, all of whom live in in the San Francisco Bay Area.
He was preceded in death by his wife Maf in February 2015, and his brother Howard “Tony” Rugen in 1986.
Ruge was born and raised in Bound Brook, N.J., the son of Walter and Cora (Lane) Rugen. He attended Rutgers University, graduating in 1943 with a B.S. in Civil Engineering.
He also attended the U.S. Naval Academy and served three years as an officer aboard submarine chasers in the Atlantic and Pacific theaters of World War II.
Rugen was a senior manufacturing executive for two major apparel companies located in New York City until 1988, and subsequently sold commercial real estate.
He married Mafalda Porcaro in 1951. They lived with their son Michael in Malone, N.Y., Trumbull, Conn., and Murray Hill, N.J. He and Maf moved to Vero Beach in 1991, after both had retired.
A joint service for Dan and Maf will be held in New Jersey.
