Main Street Vero Beach announces November guest artist

VERO BEACH — Main Street Vero has announced its guest artist for the month of November is Susan Rienzo.

The reception for Rienzo’s show will be Nov. 6 from 5 to 8 p.m. during the First Friday Gallery Stroll in the Arts District of downtown Vero Beach.

Rienzo is an award winning fiber artist who makes art quilts.

Born and raised in Brooklyn, N.Y., Rienzo and her husband relocated to Vero Beach in 2005, following their two grown children who had already moved to Florida.

Her love of art and textiles has been with her since an early age. She went to the Fashion Institute of Technology for Fashion Design, and then to the University of Georgia for her BFA in Graphic Design. She discovered quilting in 1982 when her children were young and she was exploring different creative outlets. She soon realized the potential of combining her passion for color, graphic design and sewing and started making original art quilts.

Her art has grown right along with the growth of the art quilt movement that began in the 1970s. Rienzo has a keen sense of color and whimsy and has infused her fiber art with a spirited and joyful energy that is bold and unique. She loves vibrant saturated colors and is inspired by themes of the tropics and her love of the sun and beach.

Rienzo has exhibited in juried shows throughout the US and internationally, and has been published in many quilt publications. Just recently two of her art quilts were on exhibit at The Southern Accents exhibit at The Ruth Funk Textile Center in Melbourne: one juried in and another by special invitation.

She is a juried art member of the Studio Art Quilt Associates: a non-profit international organization with a mission to promote the art quilt through education, exhibitions, professional development, documentation, and publications.
