Lois Angell, 105, Vero Beach

Lois Angell, 105, of Vero Beach, passed away on Oct. 16, 2015.

She is survived by her daughter, Barbara A. Miller; five grandchildren; nine great-grandchildren, and five great-great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her husband Albert D. Angell, Jr., her and son Albert D. Angell, III.

Angell was born Nov. 24, 1909. She came to the Moorings in 1976 from Chatham, N.J. She was born in Forest Hill, N.J. and lived in East Orange, Madison and Chatham, N.J. She was a member of the First Presbyterian Church in Vero Beach.

She was the daughter of Harvey L. Fassett and Bertha Woodruff Fassett, prominent citizens of Newark, N.J. and Bellport, Long Island, N.Y., leaders in social and community affairs.

Angell graduated from Skidmore College, Saratoga Springs, N.Y. and was a school teacher until her marriage. Her husband, Albert D. Angell, Jr., was the son of Reverend Albert D. Angell and Mabel Palmer Angell of the Lake Chaplain area. His ancestor was Roger Williams, one of the founders of Providence, R.I. in 1638.

She was active in the AAUW and College Club of the Oranges and Mapelwood, N.J., chairing the International Relation Department and she was a delegate to the New York Herald Tribunal Forum. Speakers included Jonathan Wainwright of Corregidor and Claire Chenault of the Flying Tigers.

Angell’s work among young people included Den Mother of Cub Scouts, Boy and Girl Scouts, PTA and Junior American Citizens projects.

She was the family historian and she was a charter member of the Vero Beach Genealogical Society and the Scottish Society of Vero Beach. Her early interests included the DAR, Colonial Dames, republican Club, Antiques Study Club, The Moorings Club, the Fish and Game Club of Chatham, N.J., Chatham Historical Society, Women’s Club, Friends of the Library and Old Inlet Club of Long Island, N.Y.
