FELLSMERE — The speed limit in the Hall Carter James community of Fellsmere will soon drop.
Neighborhood residents raised the issue during recent community meetings with City staff and police. Their concerns surrounded the excessive speeds some drive near the small park in the neighborhood, noting that it would be only a matter of time before a child would be struck by a speeder.
“We’re looking forward to implementing it,” City Manager Jason Nunemaker said of lowering the speed limit.
Though the matter came before the City Council as a public hearing, no one from the public spoke to the issue. Council members, too, did not provide discussion.
Instead, they unanimously supported the change to the speed limit. Nunemaker previously told the Council that there would be a warning period prior to the new speed going into effect. He also said that a speed trailer would also be placed in the neighborhood to raise awareness of the changing speed.
Residents and drivers can expect to see the new signs being installed soon.
