Kathryn Joy Stocker, 104, of Vero Beach, passed away on Oct. 10, 2015.
Stocker had been a resident of Vero Beach for more than 60 years.
She was born on Feb. 8, 1911 just outside New York City, and she married Arthur B. Stocker in 1927 in Alliance, Ohio where they worked and settled. When her husband retired, they lived between Murphy, N.C. and Vero Beach for many years. When her husband died in 1970, she lived in Vero Beach year round.
Stocker volunteered for 30 years for the Indian River Hospital Auxiliary as a “Pink Lady” and for many years she was a patron and “genie judge” for the Vero Beach Theatre Guild. She lived in her home on South Beach where she was friend and helper to many in the neighborhood over the many years that she lived there. She loved sharing the ocean with her beloved extended family and attributed her long life to a daily swim.
She was able to remain living in her home until the last week of her life and appreciated the help of her close friends and care-givers that helped make that happen. She loved telling stories and discussing the events of the day and those that knew her enjoyed her wit and practical wisdom.
She was a beloved aunt and great-aunt to many. Graveside service will be held on Saturday, Oct. 24 at 11 a.m. at Fairmount Memorial Park in Alliance, Ohio. Arrangements are by Brian Powell Funeral Directors of Hinsdale, Ill., (630) 703-9131 or www.powellfuneraldirectors.com.
