Edward R. Kaus, 95, of Vero Beach, passed away on Tuesday Oct. 13, 2015, at the Florida Baptist Retirement Center.
He is survived by his daughters Debbie Hamilton and Barb Jackson of Plant City; son Larry Kaus of Salem, Va.; brother Arthur G. Kaus of Atlanta, Ga.; sister Dorothy Pearse of Vero Beach; five grandchildren and four great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his wife Kay and sisters Martha Mantek, Lydia Blecka, twin sisters Evelyn and Elsie, and Clara H. Cadenhead.
Kaus was born in Vero Beach. After school, he served in the US Army Air Corps during WWII. While on a mission near the end of the war his plane was shot down and he became a prisoner in a German POW camp until being liberated by General George Patton.
After the war, Kraus returned to Florida where he gained employment with Winn Dixie Supermaket. He finally retired in 1974 as a Supervisor after 37 years of service. Later, he worked for Sam’s when he wasn’t tending his beloved cows.

The family will receive friends from 9 to 10 a.m., Saturday, Oct. 17, 2015 at the Strunk Funeral Home in Vero Beach with a funeral service celebrating his life beginning at 10 a.m. at the funeral home with Dr. Tristan Hohler of the First Covenant Church in Vero Beach officiating. Interment will follow at Crestlawn Cemetery.
