Drugs seized in Fellsmere raid

FELLSMERE — Members of various law enforcement agencies and units in Indian River County seized drugs and made two arrests in Fellsmere Wednesday, authorities said.

Special Investigations Unit detectives and SWAT Team members from the Indian River County Sheriff’s Office along with officers from the Fellsmere Police Department conducted a search warrant as part of an ongoing narcotics investigation. The search warrant was served at a residence in the 1000 block of E. Grant Avenue in Fellsmere at approximately 6:30 a.m.

“Aspects of this investigation are continuing, but it is safe to say these arrests have proven beneficial in our efforts to combat drug related crime,” said Sheriff Deryl Loar. “Any amount of dangerous drugs such as crack cocaine we get off the streets is that much less that has the potential to damage our neighborhoods.”

Detectives recovered 6.5 grams of crack cocaine, three and a half hydromorphone tablets, and a loaded 9mm handgun. Additionally, a digital scale consistent with the narcotic distribution trade and $515 in cash were seized.

Investigators arrested Octavious Rackard, 29, and Denise Conn, 48, both of Fellsmere, on active warrants stemming from previous incidents in this case as well as additional charges as a result of the search warrant.

Rackard faces charges that include three counts of possession of cocaine, two counts of possession of cocaine with intent to sell, one count of possession of a controlled substance, two counts of possession of firearm or ammunition by a convicted felon, and one count of possession of drug paraphernalia.

Conn faces charges that include two counts of possession of cocaine, one count each of possession of controlled substance with intent to deliver, possession of morphine, and possession of drug paraphernalia.

Both are being held in the Indian River County Jail without bond, pending their first appearance this morning.
