Alice W. Herman, 89, of Vero Beach, passed away on Oct. 3, 2015, at VNA Hospice House.
She is survived by her children, Mary Ann (Don) Dunwell of Helena, Mont., Lexie (Barry) McKently of Celebration, Fla., Bill (Linda) Herman of Vero Beach, and Jennifer Seitzer of Celebration, Fla.; eight grandchildren, John Dunwell, Heather and Michael McKently, Jason, Michael and Christopher Herman, and Phillip and Alice Seitzer.
She was preceded in death by her husband John of 62 years in 2010.
Herman was born on July 24, 1926, in McAdoo, Penn., where she spent her childhood and teenage years.
She received a scholarship to attend Philadelphia General Hospital School of Nursing and graduated top of her class with an RN degree, and practiced nursing until she was 80. While in school, she met the love of her life and husband of 62 years, John Herman. The couple eventually settled in Drexel Hill, Penn., where they raised four children.
Herman had a generous heart and loved living. She enjoyed tennis, golf, swimming and bridge. She was a devout Catholic and her favorite prayer was ‘Hail Mary’
A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 12 p.m., Saturday, Oct. 10, 2015, at St. Helen Catholic Church, Vero Beach. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in her name to VNA Hospice Foundation, 1110 35th Lane, 32960. Online condolences may be made at www.coxgiffordseawinds.com.
